July 1, 2010 1 comment

I tried to installed IE 9 Beta Version (Windows Internet Explorer Platform Preview) on my Win XP PC, it gave an error :  “Windows Internet Explorer Platform Preview doesnt support any operating system earlier than Windows Vista SP2”.

Checked on microsoft website, it said “Internet Explorer Platform Preview requires Windows 7 (x86 or x64) or Windows Vista SP2 (x86 or x64)”.

Compatibility view button missing in IE8

June 28, 2010 22 comments

The Compatibility View button is located on the address bar of Internet Explorer 8 next to the ‘refresh’ button. When you click on the button it displays the website as viewed in IE 7.

The Compatibility View button will be missing for the following reasons,

  • If you’re viewing any webpage and you have the ‘Display all websites in Compatibility View’ checkbox selected in Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
  • If you’re viewing a webpage that is included on the Microsoft-supplied compatibility view updates list and you have the ‘Include updated website lists from Microsoft’ checkbox selected in Tools > Compatibility View Settings,
  • If you’re viewing an intranet page and you have the ‘Display intranet sites in Compatibility View’ checkbox selected in Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
  • If you’ve toggled either the ‘Document Mode’ or ‘Browser Mode’ settings via the Developer Toolbar.
  • If you’re viewing a page that has declared it’s “ready” for Internet Explorer 8.

Some websites modify your registry editor and set their website as your default home page. To stop this follow the below steps,
1) Right click on Internet Explorer icon and click properties.
2) In the “Target” box, you will see “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” .Add the url of the site to the  end of this and click on Apply.
For eg. “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” http://www.vijayaksh.wordpress.com/
